Skirt with care

Lay the fleece cut-side down on a screen or table. Remove any locks with heavy vegetable matter, second cuts, tags, stains, or short belly wool. When in doubt, take it out — those bits usually cost more to remove at the mill than the fiber is worth.

Sort by staple

If a fleece has clearly different staple lengths (say, back vs britch), keep them separate. Consistent staple = consistent yarn.

Pack it right

• Use breathable bags (paper feed sacks, pillowcases, unwaxed cardboard).
• Never vacuum-seal — it crushes the crimp.
• Label each bag with your name, animal name, breed, and estimated weight.
• If you're sending multiple fleeces, tell us how you'd like them combined (or kept separate).

Include a note

Tell us what you'd love to make. "DK for a sweater," "worsted for mittens," "roving I can spin myself." That single sentence guides every choice we make.
